101 Wrong Maps of the Sacramento San Joaquin Delta |
PAGE UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Since 1998, there has
been an aggressive and progressive move to revise the Sacramento San Joaquin
Delta into the water conveyance facility originally envisioned in the early
1960's, that is, a "central canal". State agencies and ocassionally
Federal agencies have been utilizing maps to quickly convey facts, and since
2004, to mislead the viewer regarding the true history and current status of
the Delta. Between 2002 and 2004 California's Department of Water
Resources "upgraded" to a new computer modeling system to assist in ongoing
Delta studies.
Unfortunately, in the process, data regarding Delta island names, history,
soil types, locations and flood history were merged with the records of
Suisun Marsh islands, which were not included as part of the Delta studies
in the past. This merging together of two datasets may explain some of
the inaccurate resulting maps and reports as a result of the CalSimII data,
but it doesn't explain all of it.
If you are one of those people who like to find the
differences in photos, you might have fun with this. But first you
will need to review the large Delta map below, paying close attention to the
locations of the areas circled. Then click on some of the smaller map
links so a different window will open up so you can compare the base Delta
map below with the various wrong ones. There are over 101 mistakes for
you to find... |
