| Recreation in the Delta Is
just awesome for people who like to boat, fish, hike, ride bikes or
just relax in a rural setting, especially in the North Delta region.
Maps below can be clicked on to see larger versions of each area. The Delta has over 1000 miles of waterways just
perfect for family recreation like boating, fishing, swimming and
camping. Most of the articles in the last few years only talk
about the water, the levees, the battle over water rights and
protecting fish from excess water exports. What seems to be
forgotten are the hundreds of thousands of people who annually enjoy
the Delta for family vacations, week end fishing outings, and
peaceful driving day trips right in the backyard of both Sacramento
and San Francisco Bay. To get a sense of the number of marina
and recreation facilities, please click
on Delta region names as proposed by the Delta Protection Commission
and other "Delta Vision" groups. You will see an incomplete
list of marina and recreational facilities. The maps come from
Delta Protection Commission and California Dept of Boating and
Waterways. See also

Delta Politics in 2012:
Transportation in the Delta
is changing and outside agencies have been making plans for years
now that are just coming to light in the Delta. Go to

Click on the map below to see larger version and the reference
link. It is interesting to note the "major recreation areas"
of the Delta according to DWR in 2010. What about the Delta
Sceenic Loop marinas? What about all the Bethel Island
marinas? What about the very popular Steamboat Slough gunkhole
areas to the north and Snug Harbor to the south? What about
Delta Marina in Rio Vista?
