Things are not always as they seem. Sometimes its
easier to accomplish a goal in little steps rather than trying to take huge
strides. The current "2 gates" project as proposed does appear to be
just a building block of the overall CalFed plan for a Central Canal. Take a
look at the planning maps from the last twelve years and see what YOU think....2
gates, 4 gates, 9 gates, barriers...the maps are all here.
By the way, the barrier gates as planned would serve
three important functions: keep fresh water in the central canal area,
flowing south to the export pumps, and also keep fish out of the freshwater
to stop the fish from being killed in
the siphons and water pumps, and
to divert fresh water into planned
in-delta water
